Instead of our usual route driving to Hatyai through the Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration check point, we decided to drive to Hatyai through Betong and Yala. Our trip consists of 2 nights stay in Betong and 3 nights stay in Hatyai with a day trip to Songkhla.
Hatyai is a city in Southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border states of Perlis, Kedah and Penang. Although Hatyai is the largest city of Songkhla province, the capital is actually Songkhla, the centre of administration and culture, while Hatyai is the business centre.
Chiangmai, the rose of the north, is the second biggest city in Thailand. The ideal time to visit Chiangmai is around December to February when the weather is cool but we were there in May at the invitation of our best friends in Thailand, Mr Suvit and family.
We stayed at the Dusit D2, a 4 stars hotel about 5 mins walk to the night market/night bazaar and 10 to 15 mins walk to the east gate of the old part of the city. The rooms are clean with good air conditioning and bathroom facilities.
